What you'll do

• Develop and maintain distributed, event-driven systems that facilitate automated accounting processes and manage capital risk workflows.
• Create scalable solutions for processing substantial financial data, ensuring accuracy and reliability in business outcomes.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Analytics, Finance, and Engineering teams to devise technical solutions for intricate financial processes.
• Enhance the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of essential financial systems while effectively managing technical debt.
• Lead engineering projects from conception to production, balancing long-term infrastructure needs with immediate business goals.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity while upholding high standards for quality and security.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in software engineering, specifically in building and managing production systems.
• Proficiency in designing and developing distributed, event-driven applications in cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Experience in creating scalable backend services that handle large data volumes using contemporary programming languages.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices for designing, testing, and deploying reliable production systems.

Nice to have

• Understanding of financial systems, accounting processes, or capital risk management.
• Experience in building high-throughput data processing or event streaming platforms.
• Ability to design systems that prioritize scalability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
• Experience working collaboratively with engineering, product, analytics, and business teams on complex technical projects.
• Interest in using generative AI tools to enhance software development and engineering efficiency.

Practical notes

As a digital-first organization, most of your work can be performed remotely. Upstart employees are primarily located throughout the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec) and participate in team gatherings several times a year.

The anticipated salary range for this position is as follows:

United States | Remote: $166,900 - $230,900 USD

Canada | Remote: $153,000 - $190,000 USD

In addition to base pay, Upstart offers bonuses, equity compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) plan.
