In this position, you will play a critical role in enhancing our cloud platform to accommodate growing demands and complexity. Collaborating with various teams, you will focus on improving reliability, developer experience, and cost efficiency across our infrastructure.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and manage Kubernetes (EKS) clusters across various environments, ensuring high reliability and availability.
- Develop and enhance AWS infrastructure and network architecture to support scalable workloads across multiple teams.
- Create and maintain infrastructure-as-code and GitOps workflows utilizing tools like Terraform, CDK, and ArgoCD.
- Analyze incidents to improve platform reliability and performance, driving the definition of service level objectives.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, leading incident responses and post-incident reviews to implement platform improvements.
- Collaborate with SRE, Delivery, InfoSec, and product/ML teams to implement impactful infrastructure changes and establish platform standards.
- Enhance developer experience by streamlining platform usage and facilitating quicker product and ML development.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at optimizing resource utilization and cost efficiency across Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of 3 years in a professional setting.
- At least 3 years of experience managing Kubernetes in production, focusing on cluster networking, storage, and role-based access control.
- Solid understanding of AWS infrastructure, including VPC design, networking, and IAM.
- Proven experience in implementing infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
- Familiarity with GitOps workflows using tools like ArgoCD or similar technologies.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and promote platform standards across teams.
Nice to have
- Understanding of service mesh technologies such as Istio or Envoy.
- Experience in designing or managing multi-cluster Kubernetes architectures.
- Knowledge of cloud networking at scale, including ingress/egress or edge platforms like Cloudflare.
- Familiarity with cloud security, identity, and compliance frameworks such as IAM, SOC 2, or CIS benchmarks.
Practical notes
This position is remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the U.S. While most work can be done remotely, team members are encouraged to participate in regular onsite meetings, typically occurring once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days.
The anticipated base salary for this role ranges from $142,000 to $196,600 USD, depending on geographic location and individual qualifications. For candidates in Canada, the expected salary range is $136,000 to $165,000 CAD. In addition to base salary, Upstart offers target bonuses, equity compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
