About the role
You will own the strategic analysis that translates complex merchant behavior into actionable insights for key Upside partners. This role requires you to lead data initiatives that clarify how Upside drives incremental profit and value for brick-and-mortar businesses. You will act as a trusted advisor, using sophisticated analysis to answer pressing business questions from our merchant partners. You will pioneer new approaches to measurement as we expand into dynamic verticals and deepen existing relationships. The position demands strong collaboration across teams to ensure our insights are both rigorous and practical. You will define and scale analytical frameworks that drive decision-making and product optimization. Ultimately, your work will shape how we communicate value and opportunity to the merchants who power our marketplace.

What you'll do
- Scope and lead data analysis to help our merchant partners understand the impact of Upside to their business, how we drive incremental profit, and answer their broader business questions.
- Interface directly with our merchant partners to deeply understand their business and build strong analytics relationships.
- Manage and lead analysis projects to identify opportunities to improve our product, merchant acquisition strategy, and optimization of our two-sided marketplace.
- Scale meaningful analyses and information across merchants via scripting, sales enablement, and business intelligence tools.
- Partner closely with Product Marketing to define the ideal solution for articulating the sophistication of our technology to our partners.
- Pioneer new data and analysis strategies as Upside expands our presence in growing verticals.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives that influence strategic decisions.
- Develop and maintain scalable analytical models that support ongoing merchant insights and forecasting.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure data infrastructure supports advanced analytical needs.
- Mentor junior analysts and promote best practices in analysis, communication, and stakeholder management.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in quantitative management consulting, data analytics, or a related role.
- Degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or field with strong quantitative focus preferred.
- Successful track record of using analytical and communication skills to distill sophisticated concepts and insights into simple and compelling explanations.
- Strong project management skills; can drive an analysis or broader cross-functional project from end-to-end.
- Experience leading analysis that drives business decisions, and presenting analysis to key partners.
- Experience using SQL to analyze and organize multiple large datasets.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker and Tableau) and programming languages (e.g., Python) a plus but not required.
- Client-facing experience a plus but not required.
- Experience with the Grocery, Restaurant, Fuel, or Retail industries a plus but not required.
- Ability to work well in an ego-free, highly collaborative, and fast-paced startup environment.
Practical notes
Location: This hybrid role is based in our Austin, Chicago, DC, or NYC office. In-office attendance is required on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and may increase based on project-based needs and changes to Upside's in-office policy over time.
- Tier 1: NYC $170,000 - $190,000
- Tier 2: Austin, Chicago, Washington, DC $150,000 - $170,000
In addition to base salary, this position is also eligible for equity and benefits.
The final starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
