About the role
Unconventional AI is building a new computing foundation designed to increase efficiency by 1000x by mapping neural networks directly to semiconductor physics. We are seeking a Member of Technical Staff to join our R&D team to lead the invention and validation of our core computing platform.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop theoretical models and simulations for our novel computing architecture.
- Conduct hardware and software co-design to optimize performance.
- Create algorithms that exploit device physics for neural network execution.
- Validate experimental results in collaboration with the broader R&D team.
- Define the technical roadmap by navigating ambiguous, high-level research challenges.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent project experience.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex, open-ended R&D problems from scratch.
- Proficiency in analyzing nonlinear dynamical systems, including ODEs, PDEs, and SDEs.
- Experience evaluating system stability, noise robustness, and capacity.
- Ability to build practical metrics and automated analysis tools based on theoretical insights.
- Strong programming skills in Python for numerical computing and visualization.
- Familiarity with dynamics-based machine learning architectures like diffusion or energy-based models.
Nice to have
- Experience with computer algebra libraries such as sympy.
- Expertise in hardware engineering or advanced machine learning algorithms.
- Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs between hardware and software teams.

- PyTorch, JAX.
