About the role
In this position, you will work closely with team members to develop and sustain backend services that enhance user-facing applications. Your contributions will be vital in supporting Uber's expanding grocery and retail business.

What you'll do
- Create, develop, and support scalable software solutions.
- Work alongside product managers and engineering teams to gather requirements and convert them into technical specifications.
- Identify and drive opportunities throughout the entire development process, from architectural design to deployment.
- Perform detailed code reviews, providing constructive feedback to uphold high coding standards.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, assessing their potential effects on our systems and suggesting relevant enhancements.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline, accompanied by a minimum of 1 year of full-time software engineering experience, or a PhD in a relevant field.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, C++, Python, or Go.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in backend development, focusing on creating and delivering end-user products.
Nice to have
- A Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Over 3 years of full-time software engineering experience.
- Experience in building highly available distributed systems at scale and working with multiple backend services.
- Familiarity with scalable backend systems using a microservices architecture.
- A strong commitment to quality as evidenced by thorough code reviews, documentation, and testing practices.
- Experience with optimization methods and algorithm development.
- Strong analytical skills, particularly in algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.

Practical notes
For positions based in San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for this role ranges from USD $171,000 to USD $190,000. The same salary range applies to roles in Sunnyvale, CA. All US-based employees are eligible for Uber's bonus program and may receive equity awards and additional compensation. Full-time employees can participate in a 401(k) plan and are entitled to various benefits.
