About the role
You will own the end-to-end delivery of high-impact prototypes within the Forward incubation lab, translating frontier technological concepts into robust production systems. Your primary mission involves providing hands-on technical leadership while mentoring peers and steering cross-functional experiments that push the boundaries of current technology. This role demands significant technical authority to guide complex initiatives from initial conception through final execution and validation. You will be responsible for architecting and building critical systems such as Ola, the world's first agent-native communication channel, from the ground up. Another central pillar of your work will be pioneering the Agent-to-Human (A2H) protocol, effectively establishing the control room for the autonomous future. You will navigate high levels of ambiguity, rapidly pivoting technical strategies based on real-time user feedback and evolving market dynamics to ensure project success.

What you'll do
- Architect and deliver robust production solutions, managing the full lifecycle from initial intake through final deployment and monitoring.
- Define the architecture for core agentic communication primitives that will power future products across the Twilio ecosystem.
- Spearhead the design and construction of Ola, the world's first agent-native communication channel, ensuring scalability and reliability.
- Pioneer the Agent-to-Human (A2H) protocol, establishing the foundational control room for the autonomous future of interactions.
- Lead the integration of AI research into production workflows, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to validate and embed frontier models.
- Drive rapid experimentation in partnership with the ETI tech lead to test hypotheses and iterate on technical approaches swiftly.
- Navigate significant ambiguity, making decisive technical pivots based on user feedback, market signals, and emerging constraints.
- Influence executive stakeholders by articulating complex technical tradeoffs, project velocity, and strategic implications with clarity and precision.
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams to deliver Horizon 3 initiatives that redefine human-machine interaction paradigms and set new industry standards.
- Ship reliable prototypes quickly, balancing the urgent need for innovation with operational readiness and maintaining strict quality standards.
Requirements
You must possess hands-on experience delivering high-stakes prototypes in production environments, demonstrating resilience under pressure. You must show deep expertise in AI and emerging technologies, guiding technical direction for incubation projects from the ground up. You must communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering peers and executive stakeholders, bridging the gap between technical and business language. You must thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments where priorities shift and ambiguity is a constant companion. You must have a proven track record of technical leadership, mentoring peers and steering cross-functional experiments toward successful outcomes. You must be comfortable making high-impact decisions with incomplete information while maintaining a strong bias for action. You must understand the implications of technological tradeoffs on scalability, security, and user experience in large-scale systems. You must be able to work fully remotely within the India timezone while collaborating effectively with globally distributed teams. You must be passionate about building the future of customer engagement and comfortable operating at the forefront of AI and communication technology.
Nice to have
Preferred experience with agentic systems, communication protocols, and large language model integrations will be highly beneficial for success in this role.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based remotely in India. While the role is remote-first, you may be asked to report in person for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings as required. The selected candidate will report directly to Twilio as a direct contributor to the Emerging Technologies team.
