Director, Bank Connectors

About the role

You will lead the technical infrastructure that powers Trustly by managing the connections between our payment network and thousands of financial institutions. This role focuses on evolving our connectivity layer into an autonomous, AI-driven system that handles bank integrations at scale.

What you'll do

• Direct the technical roadmap for bank connector infrastructure, covering screen scraping, open banking APIs, and data aggregation.
• Manage and mentor an engineering team, setting standards for code quality, testing, and high-reliability financial integrations.
• Implement AI-centric strategies using LLMs to automate maintenance, speed up development, and increase network coverage.
• Design observability and alerting systems to proactively detect and fix connectivity issues.
• Collaborate with the VP of Banks and commercial departments to prioritize US bank coverage based on strategic merchant needs.
• Track regulatory shifts and open banking standards to keep our connectivity strategy ahead of market changes.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
• Direct experience building or maintaining financial data integrations, payment connectivity, or bank APIs.
• Working knowledge of AI-assisted development and using LLMs for automation or monitoring.
• Proven ability to manage high-reliability production systems with a focus on observability and alerting.
• Strong communication skills for translating technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with open banking standards such as Plaid, MX, or Finicity.
