University Grad - Product Engineer (2026-2027)

About the role

This role offers an early-career engineer the opportunity to contribute directly to TRM's mission of building a safer financial system for billions of people by writing production-grade code that helps disrupt crime. You will own the implementation of full-stack features that move from concept to deployed functionality, collaborating closely with mentors, product managers, and designers to solve complex problems. The position emphasizes rapid growth through shipping real-world features on core products and internal tools that support both public and private sector agencies. You will be responsible for designing and building APIs and services that balance scalability, performance, and maintainability in a high-velocity environment. The work you perform will directly assist investigators in tracing illicit activity and constructing operating pictures of threat networks. You will gain exposure to the complete technology stack, including React, Node.js, and Postgres, while contributing to the infrastructure of trust for the crypto economy. Your contributions will help financial institutions and crypto companies detect and prevent financial crime, ranging from terrorist financing to human trafficking.

What you'll do

• Build and ship full-stack features across TRM's core products and internal tools, with guidance and mentorship from senior engineers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to clarify requirements, ask smart questions, and break down complex problems into shippable pieces.
• Learn how to design and build APIs and services with scalability, performance, and maintainability in mind.
• Write clean, tested, and well-documented code that delivers value to TRM's customers and stakeholders.
• Continuously improve through feedback, pair programming, code reviews, and retros - bringing curiosity and coachability to every interaction.
• Participate in a weekly sprint schedule where you can lead projects as a technical anchor and grow according to your level and goals.
• Work within a timezone mix of EST and PST, ensuring at least 6 hours of overlap with PST (8 am to 2 pm PST) to support synchronous collaboration.
• Engage with an on-call rotation that occurs approximately once every 4-6 weeks, handling PagerDuty alerts and customer support requests from designated Slack channels.
• Contribute to a team culture built on psychological safety, trust-based relationships, extensive collaboration, and accountability to a high bar.
• Maintain ruthless prioritization and adaptability by being willing to pivot tasks mid-sprint based on new information and rationale.
• Demonstrate ownership of delivery speed by challenging timelines and proposing condensed schedules when supported by clear tradeoffs and plans.
• Conduct time-boxed spiking with clear success criteria to explore implementation options or validate feasibility through proof of concepts within short, focused windows.
• Communicate decisions and tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment with product and mission goals.
• Take initiative in learning unfamiliar systems or tools, showing curiosity and a commitment to understanding the broader TRM platform.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field, with completion expected by Summer 2026.
• Possess 1-2 software engineering internships, or equivalent experience gained through academic or personal projects.
• Demonstrate familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript and a sustained interest in full-stack development, specifically involving React, Node.js, and Postgres.
• Exhibit an eagerness to learn, taking feedback well and showing curiosity about unfamiliar systems or tools.
• Maintain strong communication skills, keeping your team updated, asking questions early, and explaining your thinking clearly.
• Show demonstrated initiative through side projects, internships, or campus involvement, proving you can take ownership and see work through to completion.
• Express excitement for TRM's mission to build a safer financial system for billions of people.
• Be located in Los Angeles and able to work from the office a minimum of three days per week to support in-person collaboration and team engagement.
