About the role

Toptal is seeking an expert to architect and refine operational systems using Airtable. You will transform manual workflows into automated, scalable solutions for clients, moving beyond basic setup to build complex, integrated business logic.

What you'll do

• Develop custom Airtable bases, interfaces, and automations aligned with specific operational needs.
• Analyze manual processes and rebuild them into automated, self-sustaining systems.
• Connect Airtable to external platforms including Zapier, Make, Slack, Gmail, and native APIs.
• Utilize JavaScript for advanced scripting tasks that exceed standard no-code functionality.
• Architect relational data structures designed for long-term scalability.
• Build user-friendly interfaces to ensure high adoption rates among non-technical staff.
• Audit and improve existing Airtable systems that suffer from complexity or performance issues.
• Provide clear documentation for all delivered systems.
• Manage client communication, including requirement gathering and technical explanation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience with Airtable, specifically in automation and scripting.
• Proven track record of integrating Airtable with Zapier, Make, or REST APIs.
• Strong ability to map processes and design systems from a high-level perspective.
• Experience building solutions that are successfully adopted by non-technical teams.
• Ability to work independently within a distributed, remote environment.
• A portfolio of past automation projects available for review.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in additional no-code or low-code tools such as Notion, Retool, or Glide.
• Professional background in business process consulting or operations.
• Advanced JavaScript skills beyond the Airtable scripting environment.
• Prior experience in a freelance or consulting role with international clients.
