About the role
You will architect and own the end-to-end Procure to Pay lifecycle for Toast, establishing the blueprint that ensures efficiency, compliance, and scalability. You will act as the single point of accountability for process governance, vendor risk, and SOX compliance within the procurement domain while protecting the company and ensuring audit readiness. In this capacity, you will lead and mentor a small team of two procurement professionals, driving a culture of ownership and high performance. You will serve as the critical super user and system administrator for our current intake tools, such as Zip and Navan, while actively evaluating and integrating future platforms to replace or enhance our stack. Your work will involve turning complex, fragmented procurement workflows into streamlined, visible, and frictionless systems that deliver measurable improvements in cycle time and stakeholder experience. You will balance the fast-paced, builder-focused startup environment with the rigorous, structured discipline required of a large enterprise. This is a hybrid role that offers flexibility alongside in-person collaboration at our Chennai office.

What you'll do
Analyze and redesign end-to-end Procure to Pay workflows and queues to drive efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and enhance visibility across the procurement lifecycle.
Own process controls and act as the definitive guardian of P2P operations to ensure strict SOX compliance, running compliance reports and serving as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of two procurement professionals, setting expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Oversee vendor risk management programs, including risk tiering and ongoing monitoring, to mitigate threats and ensure partnerships with secure, reliable suppliers.
Serve as the internal system administrator and super user for current procurement tools like Zip and Navan while spearheading the evaluation, migration, and integration of new platforms into the enterprise ecosystem.
Build strong, trusting relationships with US and global stakeholders using exceptional communication skills to manage, influence, and drive change without direct authority.
Develop clear training materials and conduct regular workshops to enable internal teams to effectively utilize procurement systems and adhere to procurement guidelines.
Evaluate, test, and implement new procurement technologies and integrations to support enterprise growth and scalability.
Establish clear processes and metrics to measure procurement performance, compliance, and user satisfaction.
Champion the adoption of standardized procurement policies and procedures to ensure consistency and control across the organization.
Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and improve data accuracy within the P2P lifecycle.
Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and IT to align procurement strategies with broader business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Monitor market trends and best practices to continuously refine procurement operations and support strategic sourcing initiatives.
Act as the primary liaison between Toast and its vendors to resolve issues, negotiate terms, and ensure service level adherence.
Requirements
Hold a Master's degree in business, Operations, Information Systems, or a related field.
Bring 10+ years of experience in procurement process, systems administration, and governance.
Possess deep expertise in process governance, establishing controls, running compliance reports, and successfully managing internal and external SOX audits.
Have a strong background in vendor risk management, including implementing and managing risk tiering methodologies.
Demonstrate a proven track record of designing, revising, and optimizing complex P2P workflows and queues to measurably improve cycle times and user experience.
Show experience integrating new procurement software into a larger enterprise ERP ecosystem, with the agility to manage complex platform migrations and transitions.
Exhibit exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated success in advising, convincing, and working effectively with US-based stakeholders.
Display the ability to influence and manage cross-functional teams and initiatives without formal authority.
Hands-on expertise acting as a system administrator or super user for modern procurement and spend management platforms.
Demonstrated experience implementing AI use cases within procurement to drive automation, efficiency, or deeper data insights, including skills in Prompt Engineering, Workflow Automation, No-Code Product Development, and MCP Integration.
Experience navigating and driving change in a hybrid culture that balances startup agility with corporate structure, process, and governance.
