Principal AI/ML Engineer

About the role

Tilt is building a verification layer for investment logic, functioning as a platform for creating and auditing rules-based strategies. We are looking for a senior technical leader to design the intelligence systems that allow AI agents to reason over financial data and construct reliable investment methodologies.

What you'll do

• Architect systems for financial reasoning, methodology generation, and data retrieval.
• Create agentic workflows that integrate language models with structured financial data and external tools.
• Build evaluation frameworks and benchmarking processes to ensure the reliability and quality of AI outputs.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to translate AI capabilities into functional user experiences.
• Evaluate new models and technical infrastructure to maintain performance, latency, and cost efficiency.
• Lead technical strategy and architecture for machine learning across the organization.

Requirements

• Extensive experience deploying production-grade AI systems rather than just training models.
• Strong foundation in software engineering and machine learning, with the ability to move from research to deployment.
• Ability to break down complex research challenges into scalable, practical system designs.
• Experience prioritizing simple, effective solutions over unnecessary complexity.
• Ability to own technical roadmaps and work autonomously in an ambiguous environment.

Nice to have

• Experience building production systems using large language models, agentic workflows, or retrieval-augmented generation.
• Background in designing evaluation frameworks for AI reasoning and reliability.
• Experience working within financial, scientific, or other high-density information domains.
• History of working at early-stage startups with significant ownership of technical or research decisions.
