About the role

Thurn Partners is establishing a new US equities and ETF division and is seeking to form its initial engineering team. This is an opportunity to work on a brand-new platform without any legacy code or inherited limitations, allowing for significant influence over the core architecture. What you'll do

• Develop essential components for a low-latency platform focused on equities and ETFs, including market data, order management, and execution systems.
• Eliminate latency in critical processes at all levels, from memory organization to network protocols, with success quantified in nanoseconds.
• Collaborate with FPGA engineers to integrate performance-sensitive logic into hardware solutions.
• Gain in-depth knowledge of US market microstructure and exchange connectivity, and contribute to the systems that operate within this framework.
• Work alongside traders and researchers to transform trading concepts into reliable production systems, while helping to define the technical roadmap for a platform that will support the business for years to come.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with modern C++ and a strong focus on performance, including skills in profiling, cache-aware design, concurrency, and hardware optimization.
• Experience in developing the internals of complex systems such as operating systems, compilers, distributed systems, database engines, file systems, embedded systems, networking, or hardware acceleration.
• Familiarity with low-level programming, including kernel bypass, RDMA, driver development, and GPU or accelerator programming, or similar optimization tasks in demanding environments.
• Previous experience in trading or finance is not necessary; the firm prefers to educate exceptional systems engineers about market dynamics.
• A proactive approach to building and owning projects, combined with a collaborative mindset to uplift team members.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a solid foundation in computer science principles, typically demonstrated through a successful background in a leading technology, chip, or systems company, or through a proven track record of delivering complex projects effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience with FPGA programming or hardware-software co-design.
