About the role
You will own the end to end delivery of critical banking platforms that run natively in the cloud and define the technical roadmap with product and client services. You will partner with brilliant engineers to solve hard problems in core and payments technology while maintaining a high standard of quality and execution. You will measure and communicate the impact of your team's work to stakeholders and drive alignment across the engineering organisation. You will contribute directly to product strategy and help shape the future direction of our cloud native banking platform. You will lead by example through hands on technical work, including code reviews and deep technical investigations. You will develop and mentor engineers, focusing on their career growth and enabling them to deliver their best work. You will switch fluidly between management and technical execution to ensure your team remains effective and engaged.

What you'll do
Define and deliver our product roadmap in collaboration with Product Management and Client Services to ensure timely execution of strategic initiatives.
Actively participate in technical discussions and design reviews to evaluate architecture and ensure robust, scalable solutions.
Measure your team's impact using data and metrics to validate outcomes and inform decision making.
Contribute to product strategy by analysing requirements and translating business needs into technical capabilities.
Engage with engineering wide initiatives covering recruitment, team processes, and tooling improvements across the organisation.
Develop engineers through coaching and career development plans that empower growth and skill mastery.
Lead by example with hands on technical work, driving code reviews and contributing to critical implementation tasks.
Balance strategic planning with operational delivery to keep complex projects on track and aligned with business goals.
Champion best practices in engineering, ensuring our cloud native approach using microservices, Kubernetes, Kafka, and modern language runtimes remains cutting edge.
Represent Thought Machine in cross functional forums, working with client representatives to shape deliverables and scope.
Maintain a high level of ownership over technical decisions, working autonomously while managing significant responsibility and accountability.
Adapt your leadership style as your team evolves, wearing different Engineering Manager hats to suit shifting priorities and maturity.
Support the development of career pathways and performance conversations that enable engineers to progress within the company.
Ensure delivery standards are upheld by driving process improvements that enhance quality, predictability, and team effectiveness.
Requirements
You bring 2+ years of experience in engineering management of product aligned teams within a technology driven environment.
You have experience working in cloud native environments, leveraging modern technology stacks such as microservices, Kubernetes, Kafka, and AWS or GCP, similar to our core platform at Thought Machine.
You possess a strong technical background that enables you to drive technical decisions while maintaining excellent interpersonal skills for communication with Product Managers and client representatives.
You are comfortable operating with a high level of responsibility and autonomy, making decisions that impact product delivery and team direction.
You wear multiple Engineering Manager hats, adapting your approach to meet the evolving needs of growing teams and changing priorities.
You demonstrate a proven ability to manage delivery against ambitious product roadmaps while balancing stakeholder expectations and technical constraints.
You show commitment to building inclusive and high performing teams, fostering an environment where learning and progress are actively encouraged.
