About the role
THG is seeking a dedicated Regulatory Officer to join our Beauty Brands division based in Manchester, UK. This position is vital for ensuring that our cosmetic products comply with all relevant regulations across multiple regions, including the European Union, United States, Asia, and Australia. The successful candidate will work closely with the New Product Development (NPD) teams, providing expert guidance on regulatory requirements from formulation to labeling, and supporting the launch of new products in various markets. The role involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge of evolving regulations, preparing necessary documentation for product registration, and ensuring ongoing compliance throughout the product lifecycle. This is an on-site role based at our Manchester office, offering an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic, fast-growing company in the beauty industry.

What you'll do
- Collaborate with the New Product Development teams to ensure all formulations meet regional regulatory standards before product launch, focusing on markets including the EU, USA, Asia, and Australia.
- Develop, implement, and maintain regulatory strategies for new product introductions, ensuring all products are compliant with local laws and guidelines.
- Maintain a comprehensive and current database of permitted ingredients, ingredient restrictions, and usage levels across different regions, advising NPD teams on compliance issues during formulation and packaging stages.
- Review product labels, packaging, and marketing materials to verify they meet regional labeling requirements, including ingredient listing, warnings, claims, and language standards.
- Provide expert guidance on cosmetic claims, ensuring all marketing and labeling content are accurate, substantiated, and compliant with regional regulations.
- Conduct regular audits of the company's websites and online content to ensure all product information aligns with regulatory standards and regional legal requirements.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of all product information, including technical files, safety data sheets, and registration dossiers, to facilitate smooth product registration and compliance.
- Support the registration process for products entering new markets by preparing and submitting registration dossiers, technical documentation, and liaising with external regulatory agencies or agents.
- Work closely with Customer Service teams to address consumer complaints related to regulatory issues, escalating concerns when necessary and providing guidance on appropriate responses.
- Engage with external regulatory bodies, consultants, and industry associations to stay informed about regulatory changes, new standards, and best practices, ensuring the company remains compliant and proactive.
- Monitor ongoing regulatory developments and communicate relevant updates to internal teams, including NPD, marketing, and legal, to ensure continuous compliance.
- Maintain a detailed library of applicable regulations, guidance documents, and standards relevant to the company's product portfolio.
- Assist in internal and external audits related to regulatory compliance, providing documentation and expert insights as needed.
- Support the training of internal teams on regulatory requirements, ensuring awareness and adherence across departments.
- Act as a point of contact for regulatory inquiries and facilitate communication between internal teams and external regulatory authorities.
Requirements
- A degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life science discipline.
- Proven knowledge of cosmetic regulation frameworks, including labeling, advertising, and retail standards, particularly in the EU, US, Asia, and Australia.
- Experience working within the New Product Development process, ensuring regulatory compliance from formulation to market launch.
- Familiarity with international product registration processes and dossier preparation is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of industry standards, best practices, and legal requirements for cosmetics and beauty products.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with internal teams, external agencies, and regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word, for data management and documentation.
- Experience with formulation management systems such as Coptis is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to regulatory challenges.
- A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on regulatory changes affecting the cosmetics industry.
Nice to have
- Previous experience with international product registration processes and dossier submissions.
- Knowledge of ITAR regulations and handling of export controls related to cosmetic products.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies in different regions, including the US FDA, European authorities, or Asian regulatory bodies.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Familiarity with formulation management systems such as Coptis or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret regulatory texts and technical data.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage documentation and registration dossiers efficiently.
- Ability to adapt to changing regulations and industry standards quickly.
