About the role
The Hartford is seeking a Reliability Engineer to join the Corporate / HIMCO IT team. This role focuses on maintaining system stability and performance across cloud and SAAS environments through infrastructure resilience and automation.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Instrument application stacks to track availability, performance, and quality metrics.
- Guide technical strategy and architecture rationalization across cross-functional teams.
- Act as a technical lead for supported applications, integration points, and business domains.
- Create automated tooling and alerting to detect, mitigate, and resolve infrastructure risks.
- Improve delivery speed while maintaining reliability standards and cost efficiency.
- Manage incident triage and service restoration to minimize business impact.
- Maintain accurate IT application and infrastructure metadata repositories.
- Develop AI-based anomaly detection and troubleshooting assistants to automate system recovery.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering.
- Proficiency in AWS and Kubernetes-based microservices.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Programming skills in Python and Java for automation.
- Familiarity with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
- Experience working within Agile frameworks.
- Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (no STEM OPT I-983 support).
Nice to have
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks for predictive failure detection and observability.
- Knowledge of open-source database technologies.
Skills & tools
- Observability: Splunk, Dynatrace, CloudWatch.
- Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation.
- Languages: Python, Java.
- Databases: Oracle, SQL Server.
