The Farmer's Dog is seeking a Staff Engineer to join our team in New York, NY. In this position, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our technology infrastructure to support our mission of transforming pet health. You will work closely with a diverse group of engineers and managers, driving the development of scalable systems and innovative solutions for our customers.

What you'll do
- Lead the evolution of core and new systems, ensuring they are resilient and scalable to meet current and future business needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with product and business strategies, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Build trust and foster collaboration between engineering pods and business partners, refining priorities to support customer and company objectives.
- Work alongside other senior engineers and managers to influence organizational direction and strategy.
- Research and thoughtfully introduce new technologies, including AI and automation, ensuring they align with our strategic goals.
- Oversee the technical implementation of AI, determining its responsible use and enhancing engineering practices.
- Ensure a cohesive experience for customers across all digital and physical products by collaborating with various departments.
- Develop a deep understanding of data flow across systems to inform architectural decisions and integrations.
- Mentor and elevate engineering standards across the organization by modeling excellence and promoting best practices.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering, with extensive knowledge in designing and evolving large-scale systems.
- Proven experience in leading architectural initiatives that enhance system reliability, maintainability, and extensibility.
- Strong collaboration with product teams to balance short-term and long-term business strategies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, demonstrating curiosity and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Experience in aligning teams and systems to drive impact beyond immediate responsibilities.
- In-depth understanding of AI, including its benefits and risks, and the ability to guide teams in its application.
- Track record of mentoring senior engineers.
- Strong ownership mentality, excellent problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, capable of simplifying complex concepts for decision-making.
- A love for dogs is essential.

Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $207,000 and $250,000 annually. This range is based on market data for New York City and may vary for candidates outside this area. The compensation package includes both base salary and equity ownership in the company. More details about equity value will be provided during the offer process.
