SAP Functional Consultant

About the role

The will analyze and document current business processes across core SAP Finance, Logistics, and Supply Chain modules, translating complex requirements into optimized configurations and solution designs. This role owns the design of solutions using broader SAP components such as SCM, TM, EWM, and PLM to ensure functional alignment with clean-core principles. You will lead SAP S/4HANA migrations by mapping data schemas, identifying gaps in legacy modules, and assisting with data harmonization and custom code adaptation. The consultant will partner directly with customers and delivery teams to recommend process improvements and leverage Tessera's AI-native platform to accelerate transformation. You will translate workshop outcomes and business requirements into detailed functional specifications for WRICEF objects, including workflows, reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, and forms. This role acts as the critical conduit between customer business needs and the technical implementation of AI-driven automation within SAP and adjacent systems. You will ensure that solutions balance speed, safety, and operational rigor while adhering to enterprise governance standards. The position requires extreme ownership of functional solution quality and alignment to business requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle.

What you'll do

Analyze and document current business processes across core SAP Finance, Logistics, and Supply Chain modules, including FI (Financial Accounting), CO (Controlling), SD (Sales & Distribution), MM (Materials Management), PP (Production Planning), QM (Quality Management), LE (Logistics Execution), PM (Plant Maintenance), and adjacent enterprise systems.

Design solutions utilizing broader SAP components and solutions such as SCM (Supply Chain Management including APO/IBP), TM (Transportation Management), EWM (Extended Warehouse Management), PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) to support end-to-end process flows.

Recommend optimized SAP configurations and functional designs aligned with clean-core principles and enterprise governance, ensuring future flexibility and scalability.

Lead SAP S/4HANA migrations by mapping data schemas, functional requirements, identifying gaps in legacy modules or solutions such as LE-WM to EWM and APO to IBP, and assisting with data harmonization and custom code adaptation.

Translate workshops and business requirements into solution designs that integrate SAP ERP (SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA), CRM, SCM, and data platforms to enable coherent enterprise operations.

Design configuration documents and functional specifications for WRICEF objects, including Workflows, Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, and Forms, to support implementation and validation activities.

Collaborate on end-to-end processes such as lead-to-cash, plan-to-fulfill, record-to-report, source-to-pay, and acquire-to-decommission, defining cross-system workflows that span ERP, CRM, SCM, and data platforms.

Define integration patterns using APIs, BAPIs, IDocs, RFCs, events, and middleware to enable seamless enterprise processes and ensure functional feasibility.

Partner with architecture and delivery teams to ensure scalability, governance, and alignment of functional designs with technical constraints and best practices.

Apply Tessera's multi-agent AI platform to automate configuration, business workflows, data migration and harmonization, code remediation, and functional processes to accelerate modernization.

Act as the conduit between customer business requirements and the Tessera AI platform's technical implementation, translating needs into actionable AI-driven configurations.

Support implementation of AI-driven automation within SAP and adjacent systems, ensuring that functional designs leverage AI capabilities appropriately.

Provide functional guidance during testing, validation, and post-deployment support to ensure business outcomes are met and process integrity is maintained.

Serve as a functional advisor during enterprise transformation programs, conducting workshops, process discovery sessions, and requirements validation with business stakeholders.

Travel to customer sites to support solution design, deployment, and key milestones, ensuring on-site presence for critical delivery activities.

Take responsibility for functional solution quality, alignment to business requirements, and enterprise governance standards, contributing to internal best practices for SAP functional consulting and process modernization.

Requirements

SAP Functional Expertise

Strong knowledge of SAP business processes and modules, with deep expertise in configuration of business processes and data models, specifically within the designated modules of FI, CO, SD, MM, PP, QM, LE, PM and adjacent enterprise systems.

Experience supporting S/4HANA migrations, ECC modernization, and clean-core initiatives, including mapping data schemas, functional requirements, and identifying gaps in legacy modules or solutions.

Ability to map business requirements to functional SAP configurations and customizations, ensuring that solutions adhere to governance, scalability, and operational rigor.

Demonstrated experience in configuration of business processes and data models within the specified SAP modules, with a clear understanding of how SAP systems support business operations.

Enterprise Integration & Process Orchestration

Understanding of integration patterns using APIs, BAPIs, IDocs, RFCs, events, and middleware, with the ability to define integration strategies that enable seamless enterprise processes.

Experience collaborating with architecture and delivery teams to ensure functional feasibility, scalability, and governance across complex enterprise landscapes.

Proven ability to analyze end-to-end processes such as lead-to-cash, plan-to-fulfill, record-to-report, source-to-pay, and acquire-to-decommission, and to define cross-system workflows.

Knowledge of SCM, TM, EWM, PLM and other SAP components, including APO/IBP, and the ability to design solutions that leverage these modules effectively.

AI-Aware Process Consulting

Experience working with AI-driven automation within SAP and adjacent systems, including configuration, workflows, data migration, and code remediation.

Ability to act as a conduit between business requirements and AI platform implementation, translating needs into actionable configurations and process designs.

Understanding of how AI-enabled process modernization can be applied to automate and optimize SAP-centric landscapes safely and governably.

Customer Engagement & Delivery Excellence

Strong communication skills to translate technical and functional insights into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.

Proven ability to conduct workshops, process discovery sessions, and requirements validation with business stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity.

Willingness to travel to customer sites to support solution design, deployment, and key milestones, ensuring on-site presence for critical delivery activities.

Ownership & Operational Rigor

Demonstrated ownership of functional solution quality, alignment to business requirements, and enterprise governance standards.

Contribution to internal best practices for SAP functional consulting and process modernization, with a focus on balancing speed, safety, and operational rigor.

Understanding of the importance of measurable outcomes, safe implementation, and governable transformation in mission-critical enterprise environments.

Nice to have

Experience with Tessera Labs offerings and multi-agent AI platforms is preferred, along with a background in regulated, large-scale enterprise environments.

Practical notes
