Senior Staff Engineer

About the role

You will lead the Origination and New Products squad in a hands-on technical capacity, focusing on building infrastructure for energy transactions. This is an individual contributor role where you will drive technical strategy and execution for ambiguous projects without formal people management responsibilities. You will partner with the Engineering Manager to align engineering outcomes with commercial goals and company growth targets.

What you'll do

• Lead the technical direction for the Origination and New Products squad, including deep integrations with internal services.
• Design, build, and review complex components of new product builds while working alongside the squad.
• Translate high-level company targets into actionable, sequenced engineering plans.
• Create systems for new product categories where specifications are undefined.
• Evaluate commercial risk and deal-gating tooling to ensure system integrity.
• Mentor engineers to raise technical standards across the team.
• Represent the technical perspective to commercial stakeholders and international partners as the company expands.

Requirements

• Proven experience at the Staff or Senior Staff level leading complex, ambiguous initiatives that resulted in business impact.
• Ability to define buildable plans from broad, undefined opportunities.
• Strong commercial judgement regarding revenue impact and deal risk.
• Proficiency in Python and AWS serverless architectures including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and EventBridge.
• Experience leading a squad technically through mentorship and direction without formal management duties.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with commercial stakeholders and external partners.

Nice to have

• Background in energy, fintech, or other regulated high-stakes commercial sectors.
• Experience launching products in international markets.
• Familiarity with real-time pricing engines, workflow orchestration, or event-driven systems.
• Experience building new product lines from the ground up.

• Compensation includes a base salary of £117,850 and stock options.
