Senior Defence Solutions Engineering Specialist at Telesat.
About the role
This position focuses on the technical architecture and business development for the Telesat Lightspeed LEO satellite network. You will serve as the primary technical authority for defence clients, translating complex operational requirements into secure, high-performance communications solutions for global government and military partners.

What you'll do
- Manage the full technical lifecycle for strategic defence opportunities, from initial engagement through proposal development and post-deployment support.
- Author technical responses for RFIs and RFPs, including solution narratives, compliance matrices, and design documentation.
- Create CONOPS, white papers, and capability briefs to influence pre-procurement decisions and national programs.
- Develop network architectures that meet rigorous security and operational standards for land, sea, air, and space domains.
- Analyze defence procurement trends, capability gaps, and competitor systems to position Lightspeed effectively.
- Collaborate with internal Product and Engineering teams to align the network roadmap with evolving customer needs.
- Act as a technical representative at briefings, demonstrations, and industry events.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Networking, or Computer Science.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in systems engineering, solution engineering, or connectivity design within government and defence sectors.
- Technical expertise in satellite communications and RF systems.
- Proficiency in networking fundamentals, specifically OSI Layers 1-3, 3G/4G/5G systems, and MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet.
- Experience designing and managing systems under high security classifications and government cybersecurity frameworks.
- Professional fluency in English.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and ability to obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
- Ability to work onsite at the Ottawa headquarters at least 4 days per week.
