About the role
Tailscale is building the future of the internet, making it simple and secure to connect people and their devices anywhere. We are looking for a backend engineer to focus on the critical aspects of identity and access management within our product. This role involves shaping features from conception through to implementation, contributing to both backend services and open-source client code.
Key facts
What you'll do
Develop core software components for Tailscale's platform, with a focus on identity services.
Build features supporting various sign-on methods including SSO, OAuth2, SAML, and WebAuthn.
Implement and maintain SCIM capabilities for synchronizing user and group data from identity providers.
Take responsibility for the operational health of services, including monitoring, incident response, and customer support escalations.
Contribute to the design and improvement of system efficiency, scalability, and stability.
Ensure a security-first approach in all design and implementation efforts.
Participate in an on-call rotation every 8 weeks to address and resolve incidents.
Requirements
Experience with authentication and authorization protocols and frameworks such as OAuth2, OIDC, SSO, and SAML.
Proven experience building observable, secure, scalable, and resilient distributed systems.
Proficiency with at least one SQL database.
Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback, and to work independently.
Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of a startup environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
Familiarity with SCIM.
Experience with the Go programming language.
Understanding of networking concepts like IP addressing and routing.

Salary range: $218,420 - $273,360 CAD.
