Applied Scientist

About the role

We are seeking an Applied Scientist to tackle complex challenges related to recommendations, search, ranking, and information retrieval. In this position, you will utilize machine learning to enhance user experiences on Twitch by connecting viewers with their preferred streamers and communities. You will work closely with a dedicated team of scientists and engineers to create and implement effective models that support Twitch's creators and audience.

What you'll do

• Design and implement machine learning algorithms aimed at improving recommendations, rankings, and search functionalities on Twitch.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to identify customer discovery issues and develop impactful machine learning solutions.
• Engage with the scientific community within Twitch, Amazon, and the broader machine learning field.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent relevant experience. Candidates with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
• Practical experience in predictive modeling and analysis for real-world applications.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow; basic knowledge of SQL is also required.

Nice to have

• Master's or Ph.D. in a related field or a degree specializing in Machine Learning.
• Experience deploying machine learning models into production environments.
• Over one year of experience in recommendations or search systems.
• Publications in leading machine learning conferences or journals, such as NeurIPS, RecSys, ICLR, or ICML.
• Familiarity with Twitch, its operations, and its community dynamics.

Practical notes

• Salary range: USD 120,000 - 210,000, based on experience and market factors.
• This position is on-site in San Francisco, CA.
