React Native Engineer, Merchant Experience Mobile

About the role

This role focuses on building mobile applications for Stripe merchants from our Barcelona office. You will drive architectural decisions and ensure high-quality software delivery within our React Native ecosystem.

What you'll do

• Lead the design and implementation of core product features by collaborating with product and design teams.
• Integrate AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency and maintain high code standards.
• Manage mobile architecture, including state management, navigation, performance optimization, and native module integration.
• Maintain testing standards and conduct code reviews to ensure system reliability.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level team members.
• Address performance issues across the render pipeline, native bridge, and JS thread.
• Improve mobile CI/CD infrastructure, release workflows, and internal engineering tooling.
• Serve as the main point of contact for internal teams to align mobile initiatives with technical requirements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in mobile development with a focus on React Native.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript.
• Knowledge of mobile design patterns and architecture, such as Redux, Flux, or MobX.
• Experience shipping and maintaining production-grade React Native applications at scale.
• Ability to explain technical concepts and solve complex problems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Expo in managed or bare workflows.
• Background in managing mobile CI/CD pipelines using tools like Fastlane, Bitrise, or GitHub Actions.
• History of building shared component libraries or mobile SDKs.
• Backend development experience with GraphQL or REST APIs.
• Contributions to open-source JavaScript or mobile projects.
• Experience with native development in Swift, UIKit, Kotlin, or the Android SDK.
• Background working in distributed or remote-first engineering teams.
