About the role
Stratolaunch is dedicated to pioneering advancements in hypersonic testing technology, and we are in search of an Electrical Engineer with varying levels of experience (I, II, or Senior). The primary responsibility of this position is to design and develop electrical systems for our carrier aircraft and hypersonic vehicles, with a strong emphasis on electrical power systems. Ideal candidates will possess a background in aerospace development and systems integration, enabling them to contribute effectively to our innovative projects.

What you'll do
- Collaborate in the electrical design process, making necessary modifications to existing systems to enhance performance.
- Employ standard aircraft components to create control, data, signal, and power circuits tailored for our applications.
- Play a key role in advancing aircraft electrical technologies by defining requirements and executing development plans.
- Generate and review wiring and harness diagrams for various electrical systems to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Engage in mission control activities, taking on console operator responsibilities and participating in flight test operations.
- Develop and implement verification activities to ensure electrical system requirements are met effectively.
- Conduct thorough testing of electrical systems and assist in the formulation of test procedures.
- Draft interface control documents and support integrated testing efforts to validate system performance.
- Create engineering tools as necessary to facilitate task completion and enhance productivity.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Talon-A Launch System Avionics Lead to ensure alignment on project goals.
- Assist in the integration of complex aerospace systems, demonstrating a commitment to integrity and accountability throughout the process.
Requirements
- Proven experience in electrical engineering, avionics, or the integration of aircraft and hypersonic vehicles.
- Familiarity with Electrical Wiring Interconnect System (EWIS) standards for electrical connections.
- Demonstrated ability in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical power systems, specifically 28VDC and 115VAC at 400Hz.
- Proficient in writing test procedures and generating detailed reports.
- Knowledge of aerospace relays, such as MIL-PRF-83536 or equivalent standards.
- Experience in creating and maintaining wiring harness diagrams to support system design.
- Understanding of aircraft power components, including Transformer Rectifier Units (TRUs), circuit breakers, and bus feeds.
- Background in technical leadership within the aerospace sector, with experience collaborating with subcontractors.
- Capability to develop requirements focusing on electrical interfaces and their integration.
- Skills in risk management and effectively communicating technical challenges to stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required for the role.
Nice to have
- Experience collaborating with government agencies on aerospace projects.
- Background in hypersonic programs and related technologies.
- Familiarity with Electrical Load Analysis (ELA) methodologies.
- Knowledge of electrical systems used in Boeing 747 aircraft.
- Understanding of IEEE 802.3 networking standards and IRIG-106 telemetry protocols.
- Experience in printed circuit board (PCB) design and integration processes.
- Previous involvement in a Mission Control Center console during flight operations.
- Existing security clearance is a plus.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or similar tools for engineering applications.
- Experience with wiring diagram software, including Siemens Capital or AutoCAD Electrical, to facilitate design tasks.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook for documentation and communication.
Practical notes
