About the role

Sprinter Health is seeking an AI Research Scientist to drive our long-term technical strategy and advance the state of machine learning in healthcare. You will bridge the gap between theoretical research and clinical application, creating novel methods that improve patient outcomes.

What you'll do

• Define and execute a research agenda that aligns with company goals.
• Create new model architectures, training protocols, and evaluation frameworks.
• Produce peer-reviewed studies, patents, and technical documentation.
• Guide engineering teams on model reliability, uncertainty quantification, and experimental design.
• Collaborate with clinical staff on validation studies, data governance, and IRB-related processes.
• Mentor team members on rigorous machine learning practices.
• Represent the company at academic conferences and within the broader research community.

Requirements

• Proven track record of conducting original research and publishing at a peer-review standard.
• Deep technical expertise in areas such as LLMs, agents, causality, multimodal learning, or clinical AI.
• Proficiency in engineering and the ability to execute large-scale experiments independently.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous environments and define research directions from first principles.
• Understanding of healthcare-specific validation requirements, including prospective evaluation and real-world deployment constraints.

Nice to have

• First-author papers at venues like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or ACL.
• Research published in clinical journals such as Nature Medicine, NEJM AI, npj Digital Medicine, CHIL, or MLHC.
• Background in industry research labs or AI-focused healthcare organizations.
• Experience working directly with clinicians or managing IRB and data governance workflows.
