About the role

Spreetail is looking for an experienced engineer to guide technical strategy within our logistics and ecommerce platform. You will influence architecture and mentor team members while solving complex problems in inventory, order management, and warehouse operations.

What you'll do

• Architect and maintain services for inventory management, order routing, fulfillment, and carrier integrations.
• Translate ambiguous business requirements into actionable technical plans.
• Integrate AI-driven signals such as ETA predictions and anomaly detection into operational workflows.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design documentation, and mentorship without holding direct reports.
• Collaborate with Staff engineers and product teams to define platform standards and reduce technical debt.
• Streamline client onboarding processes by developing reusable components.
• Manage exceptions and automate manual processes to improve system reliability.

Requirements

• 6 to 8+ years of professional experience in backend system development.
• Proven track record of leading technical direction for a team or workstream.
• Strong proficiency in API design, data modeling, and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud-native architecture, specifically AWS.
• Familiarity with event-driven patterns, including message queues and asynchronous processing.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively in a distributed setting.

Nice to have

• Background in ecommerce, order management, or warehouse logistics systems.
• Experience with EDI standards or 3PL and WMS integration patterns.
• Practical knowledge of incorporating machine learning model outputs into application logic.

• Backend engineering, AWS, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, API development, technical leadership, and system design.

Practical notes

• This is a remote role requiring a dedicated home office.
• You must provide your own hardware: 4th generation Intel i3 or equivalent processor, 4GB RAM, and dual monitors.
• Operating system must be Windows 10 or higher, or MacOS.
• You must maintain a stable wired internet connection of at least 10 Mbps.
