Technical Trainer, CNC Machining at SpaceX.
About the role
This position focuses on developing and executing hands-on training for the Starship components manufacturing team. You will design curriculum and lead instruction to ensure staff can safely and effectively operate Okuma milling and turning equipment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design course materials including PowerPoint presentations, exams, handouts, and study guides.
- Maintain and update Engineering Masters for all machining training programs.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to build content for classroom, shop floor, and online delivery.
- Instruct production and engineering staff on Okuma mill-turns, mills, and lathes.
- Evaluate student competency through written exams and practical machining assessments.
- Manage training logistics, including scheduling, attendance tracking, and enrollment.
- Research new machining techniques and draft process specifications for Okuma systems.
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized training support.
- Gather feedback from quality, engineering, and production teams to refine training modules.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a technical or on-the-job trainer for CNC or machining courses.
- Ability to work weekends and overtime as required by production schedules.
- Physical capacity to lift 25 lbs, stand for long periods, and navigate around shop machinery.
- Must meet ITAR requirements: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Nice to have
- Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, industrial education, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on machine shop experience.
- 5+ years of experience developing and delivering technical training.
- Proficiency in programming and operating Okuma CNC systems, including G-code, M-code, tool offsets, and work coordinate systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining specs.
- Experience with video editing or online learning module development.
