Sr. Process Safety Engineer

About the role

The Environmental Health and Safety team in Bastrop is looking for an engineer to define safety standards for manufacturing and chemical systems. You will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding stakeholders through risk mitigation and operational safety for space exploration technology.

What you'll do

• Lead Process Hazard Analyses for chemical systems and define risk controls.
• Assess reaction hazards and potential overpressure or overtemperature conditions.
• Manage and conduct Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
• Execute hazard analyses and risk assessments for complex process equipment.
• Validate safety-critical interlocks and instruments during Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
• Build and maintain a Process Safety Management program to ensure full compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or process safety.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience designing and commissioning chemical systems.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for U.S. Department of State export authorization.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in chemical engineering.
• Proficiency with P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and instrumentation diagrams.
• Experience reviewing safety control circuits and calculating performance levels.
• Background in commissioning systems involving strong acids, bases, hydrofluoric acid, pyrophoric materials, or flammable gases.
• Deep knowledge of standards including ASME, NFPA, ANSI, IBC, IFC, and RAGAGEP.
• Familiarity with PFMEA, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and lean manufacturing.
