About the role
The Environmental Health and Safety team in Bastrop is looking for an engineer to define safety standards for manufacturing and chemical systems. You will serve as a subject matter expert, guiding stakeholders through risk mitigation and operational safety for space exploration technology.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead Process Hazard Analyses for chemical systems and define risk controls.
- Assess reaction hazards and potential overpressure or overtemperature conditions.
- Manage and conduct Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
- Execute hazard analyses and risk assessments for complex process equipment.
- Validate safety-critical interlocks and instruments during Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
- Build and maintain a Process Safety Management program to ensure full compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or process safety.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience designing and commissioning chemical systems.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for U.S. Department of State export authorization.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in chemical engineering.
- Proficiency with P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and instrumentation diagrams.
- Experience reviewing safety control circuits and calculating performance levels.
- Background in commissioning systems involving strong acids, bases, hydrofluoric acid, pyrophoric materials, or flammable gases.
- Deep knowledge of standards including ASME, NFPA, ANSI, IBC, IFC, and RAGAGEP.
- Familiarity with PFMEA, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and lean manufacturing.

Practical notes
