Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Join the satellite payload team in Redmond to build hardware for the Starlink constellation. You will manage the full lifecycle of space-grade components, from initial concept through high-volume manufacturing and on-orbit operation.

What you'll do

• Guide hardware from early design stages through large-scale production and orbital deployment, typically within a one-year cycle.
• Define design criteria and collaborate on system-level requirements and trade studies.
• Perform rapid design iterations and analysis to influence product direction.
• Implement design for manufacturing principles to reduce part counts and improve fabrication efficiency.
• Coordinate with supply chain and production teams to establish effective assembly lines.
• Validate designs through environmental and performance testing.
• Maintain accountability for product delivery timelines and performance outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in an engineering field.
• Minimum 1 year of professional or internship experience in mechanical or electromechanical design, analysis, testing, or manufacturing.
• Proficiency with CAD and FEA software.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required by mission milestones.
• Must meet ITAR requirements: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice to have

• Master degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of professional mechanical design and analysis experience.
• 2+ years of hands-on project experience with complex systems, ideally in a team lead capacity.
• Expertise in 3D CAD, specifically NX.
• Application of GD&T standards.
• Experience with PCB, RF, or antenna mechanical design.
• Background in structural analysis and failure mode assessment.
• Knowledge of material selection, manufacturing methods, and surface treatments.
• Proficiency in programming languages.
• Experience with statistical process control, design of experiments, and process qualification.

Practical notes

Salary ranges: Level 1 ($100,000 - $117,500) and Level 2 ($115,000 - $140,000). Total compensation includes potential stock incentives, discretionary bonuses, and an employee stock purchase plan. Company shuttles are available from select Seattle locations to the Redmond office.
