Harness Design Engineer, Satellites

About the role

You will manage the end-to-end development of wire harness systems for Starlink satellites. This position covers the full lifecycle from initial component selection and design to production, testing, and final integration.

What you'll do

• Design electro-mechanical wire harnesses for the Starlink vehicle fleet.
• Build harness solutions using 3D NX CAD and conduct technical trade studies.
• Draft electrical schematics for both flight and qualification hardware.
• Oversee vehicle-level mechanical assemblies and resolve integration challenges.
• Execute mechanical and electrical testing, including thermal, shock, vibration, and load analysis.
• Present design, testing, and analysis results during formal reviews.
• Produce and release manufacturing documentation and drawings on schedule.
• Coordinate with production and integration teams to ensure designs are buildable and meet project timelines.
• Conduct research and development to optimize harness mass and cost.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in an engineering field.
• Experience using CAD and FEA software.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends during critical project phases.
• Willingness to travel up to 30 percent of the time.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Background in 3D harness design, formboard creation, installation drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience modeling complex top-level assemblies and avionics enclosures.
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, including internships or team lead roles.
• Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes.
• Experience taking a complex component from design through high-volume production.

Practical notes

Compensation: Level 1 salary range is $100,000 to $117,500; Level 2 salary range is $115,000 to $140,000. Total rewards include potential stock options, long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
