Environmental Health & Safety Specialist at SpaceX.
About the role
You will join the EHS team to provide technical oversight and ensure safety compliance during the construction of the Starship spaceport in Cape Canaveral. This role focuses on managing high-risk mechanical construction activities and enforcing safety standards across all site operations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage daily EHS site operations and enforce contractor safety programs.
- Conduct regular hazard inspections of facilities, machinery, and construction sites to ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and NIOSH guidelines.
- Perform job hazard assessments and define PPE requirements for construction tasks.
- Provide technical support for crane operations, rigging, heavy equipment use, welding, and steel fabrication.
- Investigate incidents, spills, and injuries to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Deliver safety training to construction personnel regarding equipment and fabrication hazards.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, RCRA, and DOT regulations.
- Monitor employee exposure to hazards during standard work and emergency situations.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- 5+ years of experience in EHS design, development, and oversight within the construction industry.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted.
- Willingness to work overtime to meet project deadlines.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
- Ability to pass USCG examinations, federal facility background checks, and Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral.
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
Nice to have
- Bachelor degree in engineering, specifically mechanical engineering or occupational health and safety.
- Experience with industrial or commercial construction projects.
- NCCCO certification or Certified Advanced Rigger status.
- CHST or CSP certification.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Proficiency with Building Codes and National Electric Code.
- Experience with machine guarding, industrial hygiene, and emergency response for hazardous material releases.
Skills & tools
- Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Expertise in crane and rigging, heavy equipment, trenching, excavation, work at heights, confined space, welding, and fabrication safety.
