CNC Machinist (Launch Hardware) at SpaceX.
About the role
SpaceX is building the technology required to make life multi-planetary. This role focuses on the precision manufacturing of launch hardware to support our flight operations in Cape Canaveral.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Program and operate CNC equipment for both rapid-turn projects and recurring production runs.
- Machine raw materials, weldments, and existing parts while maintaining high quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to refine manufacturing processes and improve component quality.
- Execute machining tasks using blueprints, models, and verbal specifications.
- Set up and prove out programs on horizontal and vertical CNC mills, CNC lathes, and manual shop equipment.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment while following company procedures.
- Train and mentor team members to support a collaborative shop culture.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience setting up and operating CNC mills or lathes.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience programming and reading G-code.
- Ability to pass an Air Force background check.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and work in cramped spaces or at heights up to 100 feet.
- Availability for overtime, weekend shifts, and occasional travel.
- Must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Nice to have
- Experience with multi-axis and multi-tasking programming.
- Proficiency in CAM software including MasterCAM 1019+, NX, or Fusion360.
- Skilled in using precision measurement tools like bore gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
- Knowledge of feed and speed optimization for various materials.
- Familiarity with Fanuc and Haas controls.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering prints and GD&T tolerances.
- Experience designing fixtures and work-holding solutions.
