About the role
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join the Decision Science team. In this pivotal position, you will lead the design and analysis of experiments that assess the effectiveness of key initiatives. Your work will significantly influence the experiences of millions of PlayStation users by applying statistical analysis and causal inference techniques to critical company projects.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop, implement, and analyze A/B tests and quasi-experiments, utilizing advanced causal inference methods when necessary.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and marketing teams to integrate experimentation into development processes and present findings to senior leadership.
- Mentor fellow Data Scientists, offering guidance and technical expertise.
- Establish best practices for hypothesis formulation, metric selection, test design, and communication of results.
- Contribute to the creation of centralized frameworks, tools, and documentation to enhance experimentation practices across the organization.
- Independently manage data extraction, transformation, and analysis from complex systems using SQL, Python, and other analytical tools.
- Clearly communicate insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, facilitating data-driven decision-making.
- Stay updated on the latest methodologies in experimentation and causal analysis, bringing innovative ideas to the team.
- Your analyses will directly impact how PlayStation develops, markets, and improves its products.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 6 years in a data science role focused on experimentation or causal inference (4 years with a PhD).
- Strong expertise in A/B testing and causal inference, including quasi-experimental techniques.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and analysis.
- Comprehensive understanding of statistical methods.
- Experience in machine learning modeling is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to shape product and business strategies through clear, actionable insights.
- Experience in developing or contributing to experimentation frameworks and best practices.
Nice to have
- A Master's or PhD in Statistics, Economics, or Econometrics; other quantitative degrees may be considered.
- Interest in video games, gaming platforms, or player behavior is a plus.

Practical notes
The estimated salary range for this position is $212,200 to $318,200 USD. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, and location. This position may also qualify for a bonus package.
