Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Finance Platform
Solaris, Europe's leading embedded finance platform, enables partners across industries to deliver compliant, customer-centric banking through its full German banking license and proprietary modular B2B technology stack. This role exists within one of Solaris' core product engineering teams, where you will collaborate with product management, engineering leadership, and fellow engineers to design, deliver, and operate high-scale financial services that solve critical business and technical challenges.
In this position, you will take end-to-end ownership of complex backend systems, from initial architecture through production operation and continuous improvement. You will shape digital banking solutions in Berlin by designing resilient intake pipelines that transform requirements into reliable distributed services. You will build modular components on GCP, AWS, or Azure while upholding stringent security standards for financial data. Your work will involve orchestrating cross-functional reviews to ensure technical decisions align with product outcomes and business goals. You will ship stable releases by embracing the "You build it, you run it" philosophy, covering design, deployment, and operations. You will also partner with product teams to break down complex needs, guide long-term architecture for your squad, and champion observability, performance, and reliability. Additionally, you will advance responsible AI practices by evaluating tool outputs and contributing to a culture of thoughtful AI use within the team.
This role offers the opportunity to work abroad for up to 12 weeks per year, a learning and development budget of €1000 per year tied to a transparent growth framework, and a home office budget. You will receive a monthly meal allowance and 28 vacation days, increasing to 30 days after two years and 33 days after three years with Solaris.
To succeed here, you must bring proven experience building scalable products with Golang in production environments. You need strong experience building and operating cloud-native applications on GCP, AWS, or Azure, along with a deep understanding of distributed system design focused on performance, reliability, and maintainability. You should demonstrate ownership of complex systems with an operational excellence mindset and the ability to balance technical and product priorities while leading cross-functional initiatives. Thoughtful communication skills are essential, as you will align engineering efforts with business objectives. Comfort with AI tools, critical evaluation of their outputs, and a commitment to responsible AI use are required.
Experience with Banking-as-a-Service concepts and embedded finance platforms is valuable but not required. Core skills and tools include Golang, GCP, AWS, Azure, distributed systems, and security best practices.

What you'll do
- Evaluate and own the full lifecycle of complex backend services, translating ambiguous requirements into resilient, scalable distributed systems that power digital banking products.
- Design and implement secure, high-throughput intake pipelines on GCP, AWS, or Azure, ensuring data integrity, auditability, and compliance with financial regulations.
- Build and maintain modular, cloud-native components using Golang, applying strict security practices to protect sensitive financial data at every layer.
- Operate services in production by following "You build it, you run it" principles, owning deployment, monitoring, and continuous reliability improvements.
- Partner with product management to decompose complex business needs into technical tasks, ensuring alignment between engineering delivery and strategic product outcomes.
- Guide long-term architecture for your squad, defining standards, patterns, and guardrails that enable scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Lead cross-functional design and code reviews, coordinating with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to validate technical decisions.
- Champion observability, performance, and reliability by implementing metrics, tracing, and alerts that drive proactive system management.
- Evaluate outputs from AI-assisted development tools, applying critical analysis to ensure quality, security, and responsible use within the engineering culture.
- Contribute to a forward-looking engineering culture by sharing knowledge, improving processes, and mentoring peers on best practices in distributed systems and cloud-native development.
Requirements
