What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable backend services that support SoFi's custody operations, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to define and refine system requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
- Optimize existing backend systems for performance and reliability, identifying bottlenecks and implementing effective solutions.
- Develop and maintain APIs that facilitate seamless integration with other services and systems within the SoFi ecosystem.
- Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept through deployment and maintenance, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Implement security measures to protect sensitive financial data, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain operational excellence.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and implementing new tools and practices that enhance our development processes.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate deployment processes and improve CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient delivery of software updates.
- Engage in cross-team initiatives to enhance overall system architecture and contribute to strategic planning discussions.
- Document system designs, processes, and workflows to ensure clarity and facilitate knowledge sharing across teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in backend development, with a strong focus on building scalable systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go, with a solid understanding of object-oriented design principles.
- Extensive experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience in deploying applications in cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
- Proven ability to write clean, maintainable code and conduct thorough testing to ensure software quality.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience in the financial services or fintech industry, particularly in custody or asset management.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in an Agile development environment.

- Understanding of security best practices in software development, particularly in the context of financial applications.
