What you'll do

Design and implement scalable backend services that support SoFi's custody operations, ensuring high availability and performance.
Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to define and refine system requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
Optimize existing backend systems for performance and reliability, identifying bottlenecks and implementing effective solutions.
Develop and maintain APIs that facilitate seamless integration with other services and systems within the SoFi ecosystem.
Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept through deployment and maintenance, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Implement security measures to protect sensitive financial data, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain operational excellence.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and implementing new tools and practices that enhance our development processes.
Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate deployment processes and improve CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient delivery of software updates.
Engage in cross-team initiatives to enhance overall system architecture and contribute to strategic planning discussions.
Document system designs, processes, and workflows to ensure clarity and facilitate knowledge sharing across teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in backend development, with a strong focus on building scalable systems.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go, with a solid understanding of object-oriented design principles.
Extensive experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience in deploying applications in cloud environments.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
Proven ability to write clean, maintainable code and conduct thorough testing to ensure software quality.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

Experience in the financial services or fintech industry, particularly in custody or asset management.
Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in an Agile development environment.
Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in developer communities.
Understanding of security best practices in software development, particularly in the context of financial applications.
