About the role

Smartsheet is embarking on an exciting initiative to establish an Enterprise Insights and Intelligence division aimed at centralizing corporate analytics, governance, and enhancing data accessibility. As a key member of this new team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the way the organization defines and utilizes data. This position involves collaborating closely with senior leadership to create a robust data infrastructure that supports both human decision-making and the integration of advanced AI technologies.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Design and sustain governed metric models that will act as the definitive source for key performance indicators (KPIs) across the organization.
• Automate the generation of executive scorecards and corporate reports, incorporating advanced anomaly detection features.
• Conduct thorough analyses of organizational goals and KPIs, providing actionable insights through asynchronous updates and review sessions.
• Oversee the certification of metrics, maintain a centralized glossary of KPIs, and standardize the creation of dashboards for consistency.
• Integrate AI solutions, such as Claude and Snowflake Cortex, to enable natural language queries for enterprise data access.
• Promote self-service analytics by developing comprehensive documentation, conducting training sessions, and performing quality checks in analytics tools like Tableau and Amplitude.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Finance, Engineering, Go-To-Market (GTM), and Customer Success, to ensure alignment on data definitions and usage.
• Transform qualitative feedback from users into structured data pipelines to enhance data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in business intelligence engineering, analytics engineering, or data engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing KPIs, analyzing data trends, and effectively communicating insights to influence strategic business decisions.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, along with experience using cloud data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.
• Proven experience in developing semantic layers or governed data models that ensure data integrity and usability.
• Familiarity with dbt Core or dbt Cloud, particularly in YAML-based modeling techniques.
• A solid understanding of artificial intelligence and large language model (LLM) concepts, including agentic frameworks and Model Context Protocol.
• Experience with data visualization tools, particularly Tableau or Amplitude, to present data insights effectively.
• Ability to work collaboratively across different time zones, especially with teams operating in US Pacific hours.

Nice to have

• Experience in developing skills for AI agents, subagents, or integrating with Model Context Protocol servers.
• Practical experience with agentic coding platforms such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf.
• A background in software engineering, particularly with programming languages like Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Familiarity with event taxonomy, product instrumentation, or behavioral analytics methodologies.
• Knowledge of metric governance frameworks or data cataloging tools to enhance data management practices.
• Previous experience in a SaaS or enterprise software environment, contributing to a deep understanding of industry standards.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in dbt, MetricFlow, Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau, Amplitude, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and LLM agentic frameworks, including Model Context Protocol.
