About the role

Smartly is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the AI Platform Team in Helsinki. You will build and deploy machine learning solutions that optimize advertising creative and performance data for global brands.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain scalable machine learning models for advertising workflows.
• Manage the full project lifecycle from initial data exploration and problem framing to production monitoring.
• Analyze diverse datasets including text, audio, video, images, and structured performance metrics.
• Collaborate with software engineers and machine learning specialists to improve production efficiency.
• Translate business requirements from stakeholders into technical solutions.
• Participate in team planning, retrospectives, and knowledge sharing.
• Stay current with advancements in generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, and model explainability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in applied machine learning or data science.
• 2+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure such as GCP or AWS.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Solid background in calculus, statistics, and linear algebra.
• Hands-on experience with modern frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Familiarity with MLOps tools and concepts such as Kubeflow or MLflow.
• Proven ability to design, evaluate, and monitor machine learning models.
• Excellent communication skills in English for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• M.Sc. in a relevant field is preferred.
