Job description
Sr. Principal, Product Manager at Smarsh
About the role
This senior individual contributor role focuses on defining the future of Smarsh's Conduct platform, specifically its agentic and core platform capabilities. You will independently shape product direction and drive execution, influencing product and engineering teams through technical expertise and a commitment to high standards.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Shape the strategic direction and roadmap for the Conduct platform's agentic features and underlying capabilities, including its API, MCP, and headless interfaces.
- Define the platform's API as a product, specifying elements like alert queues, review actions, and programmatic contracts for AI agents.
- Develop the platform's extensibility model, enabling sophisticated customers and external systems to build upon it, including defining pricing and packaging for different tiers.
- Collaborate with AI/ML product teams to clearly delineate the intelligence layer from the workflow layer that agents interact with.
- Own non-functional requirements, such as scale, performance, reliability, and security, as critical product priorities for large financial institutions.
- Translate the rigorous demands of global banks and regulatory examinations into a clear, actionable roadmap for non-functional improvements.
- Define product requirements for agentic workflows, ensuring their actions are captured, explainable, and as defensible as human analyst decisions.
- Partner with Engineering to ensure product specifications are complete and ready for development, and with AI/ML, Data Science, Professional Services, and Customer Experience to translate customer needs into priorities.
- Maintain awareness of the competitive landscape and develop unique product positioning.
- Set the standard for product management craft in platform and API development, focusing on problem framing, prioritization, and outcome measurement.
- Mentor other product managers in platform and agentic product thinking through influence and example.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years in product management, with a proven history of delivering enterprise-scale products.
- Demonstrated experience owning API and platform products, including defining developer-facing surfaces and extensibility layers.
- Proven track record of owning non-functional requirements as product responsibilities, not engineering tasks.
- Experience building products for both human and programmatic or agentic users, or a strong related background.
- Familiarity with enterprise SaaS products in regulated industries, understanding the implications of product decisions in such environments.
- A history of leading and influencing teams through technical expertise and the quality of your work, rather than direct management.
- Strong written communication skills, capable of producing detailed product specifications and strategic documents.
- Experience collaborating with Engineering, Design, and Data Science as equal partners.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in financial services, compliance, or legal technology, particularly with AI explainability and auditability.
- Experience commercializing AI or ML capabilities, translating model performance into product value and pricing.
- Experience managing products with both user interface and developer-facing components.
- Familiarity with agent frameworks, MCP, or bring-your-own-model extensibility as a product concern.
