Product Management Intern at skydio.
About the role
This internship offers the chance to define and shape Skydio's drone platforms, controllers, cameras, and accessories. You will work with customers and engineering teams, contributing to products used in public safety, national security, and utility services. This is an opportunity to learn hardware and software product management, influence key decisions, and ship products.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Define aspects of current and future hardware products like drones, controllers, and cameras, impacting shipped products.
- Engage with customers and internal teams to understand business challenges and guide project execution.
- Use direct customer experiences and usage data to inform project decisions.
- Create and publish product requirement documents for vehicle hardware, controllers, cameras/sensors, and embedded software.
- Partner with design and engineering leaders across hardware, firmware, computer vision, AI, and machine learning to complete projects expected to ship during or after the internship.
- Gather and document customer feedback to direct product development.
- Collaborate with sales and customer success to build customer relationships and ensure their success.
- Work with product marketing to develop launch plans, positioning, and messaging.
- Partner with the Go To Market Strategy team for demand forecasting and product pricing.
Requirements
- Demonstrated high ownership and initiative in fast-paced work environments.
- Clear and effective communication skills for both technical and narrative contexts.
- Exceptional critical thinking, rapid learning, and information processing ability.
- A team player willing to take on any task to achieve goals.
- Strong spatial and mechanical reasoning skills.
- Eagerness to gain first-hand field experience.
- Good sense for risk management and comfort forming opinions with incomplete information.
- Strong business acumen, able to approach problems from both business and technical perspectives.
- FAA Part 107 certification encouraged within 60 days of employment.
Nice to have
- Background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science.
- Advanced degree or degree in progress (e.g., MBA).
- Aviation or drone experience.
- Experience with IoT or networked devices.
- Experience in law enforcement, national security, or electrical utilities.
- Experience with enterprise/professional robotics or drones.
- Direct or indirect engineering experience to facilitate deep technical discussions.
