What you'll do
- Architect and implement advanced autonomous behaviors for uncrewed aerial vehicles operating in complex environments.
- Engineer sophisticated sensor data processing pipelines to construct reliable and resilient sensor fusion solutions.
- Design and execute rigorous validation protocols for autonomy systems using high-fidelity hardware and software in-the-loop simulation environments.
- Develop and maintain integration layers to connect Shieldai autonomy software with third-party aircraft platforms and external command and control systems.
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination with robotics, AI, and systems engineering departments to produce unified and coherent technical solutions.
- Lead comprehensive oversight of code quality, system architecture, and enforce stringent design reviews to maintain engineering excellence.
- Provide expert mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members to elevate the overall capability of the engineering organization.
- Analyze complex operational problems and devise autonomous solutions that balance performance, reliability, and safety constraints.
- Contribute to the definition and evolution of technical standards and best practices for autonomy development within the Shieldai ecosystem.
- Drive the adoption of modern software engineering practices to ensure the autonomy stack is maintainable, scalable, and secure.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their applicability for enhancing the capabilities of uncrewed platforms.
- Collaborate with test and validation teams to develop procedures that confirm the robustness and reliability of autonomy features.
- Translate customer and stakeholder requirements into detailed technical specifications for autonomous system behavior.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the autonomy development lifecycle.
Requirements
- Hold a tertiary degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Aerospace, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Possess substantial professional background in autonomy, perception, robotics, or aerospace with proven experience in software-intensive systems.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in modern C++ and a strong understanding of software design patterns and system architecture.
- Have a proven track record of building and shipping reliable software within fast-moving, deadline-driven environments.
- Show capability to work effectively in ambiguous situations where requirements evolve and problem-solving requires innovation.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Must be authorized to work in the location specified and comply with all applicable employment regulations for the engagement type.
- Understand the importance of compliance with security protocols and data handling procedures in a defense-oriented context.
Nice to have
- Background in the defense sector with an understanding of mission-critical systems and operational workflows.
- Experience working with uncrewed aerial systems and the associated challenges of deployment in the field.
- Expertise in state estimation, real-time systems, path planning, or guidance, navigation, and control principles.
