Senior Electrical Engineer, Test Equipment Design

About the role

Shield AI develops autonomous systems and defense technology, including the V-BAT aircraft. This role focuses on the Hardware Test Engineering team, where you will build the electrical and mechanical systems required to validate our hardware for mission-critical reliability.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Lead the creation, validation, and rollout of test systems for V-BAT subsystems.
• Design PCBs and test interfaces for RF, power electronics, and communication hardware.
• Write Python scripts to automate test sequences for better efficiency and repeatability.
• Build custom test fixtures using PLCs, relays, PCBAs, and wiring harnesses.
• Manage cross-functional design reviews and push for design-for-testability (DFT) standards.
• Conduct HASS, ESS, and HALT testing to verify performance in extreme conditions.
• Mentor junior staff and share technical knowledge across the hardware engineering group.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in hardware design and test engineering.
• Ability to design and validate multidisciplinary hardware systems in high-stakes environments.
• Experience managing projects from initial concept through final execution.
• Strong collaborative skills and a commitment to high performance standards.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Python for test automation.
• Experience with PCB design software such as Altium, KiCAD, or Eagle.
• Familiarity with CAD tools like SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA.
• Background in high-reliability sectors such as automotive, aerospace, or defense.
