About the role

Shakepay manages financial infrastructure for over one million Canadian users focused on bitcoin services. We are seeking a senior engineer to manage end-to-end system development and influence our technical direction.

What you'll do

• Transform complex, open-ended challenges into functional production features.
• Coordinate with design and product staff to establish project scope and execution strategies.
• Develop and maintain production systems while prioritizing system correctness and stability.
• Manage the full lifecycle of your code, including on-call duties and incident resolution.
• Influence team standards, tooling, and internal development processes.
• Navigate trade-offs between delivery speed and long-term system health.

Requirements

• Demonstrated history of owning production systems and managing on-call responsibilities.
• Ability to make informed technical decisions despite incomplete information.
• Experience working with Node.js and TypeScript for backend systems.
• Proficiency with Postgres relational databases.
• Experience managing production environments using observability tools like Datadog.
• Familiarity with cloud-based or containerized infrastructure.
• Regular use of AI tools to assist in coding, debugging, and research.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code with professional skepticism.
• Willingness to maintain and work within existing codebases rather than immediately replacing them.

Nice to have

• Background in payments, financial technology, or cryptocurrency systems.
• Experience with React Native for mobile development.
• History of working in fast-paced or high-growth organizations.

• Compensation includes stock options and a base salary range of $170,000 to $220,000 CAD, with potential for higher pay for exceptional performance.
