About the role
Sezzle is looking for a junior engineer who began their career in accounting and has since transitioned into software development. You will apply your financial domain knowledge to build and improve technical solutions within a fintech environment. This position involves writing code, documenting features, and contributing to the full software development lifecycle.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Participate in designing, building, and deploying software for financial workflows
- Work alongside cross-functional teams to maintain and extend existing systems
- Use your accounting background to spot gaps and strengthen automation and reconciliation processes
- Assess and implement software tools, processes, and performance metrics
- Provide guidance and support to users of internal software systems
- Follow project plans and adhere to industry standards throughout development
Requirements
- Previous work experience as an accountant or financial analyst
- Solid grasp of financial operations including reconciliation, reporting, and compliance
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Go
- Familiarity with relational databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Experience developing backend APIs
- Understanding of software engineering tools, development methodologies, and release workflows
- Demonstrated use of Claude or a similar large language model to support productivity, research, and communication
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Computer Science, or a related discipline
