About the role
This position supports Sezzle's Compliance Team by providing a second layer of review and daily guidance on various business operations. You will translate regulatory mandates into actionable advice, conduct compliance checks, and create documentation for governance purposes. Your work will ensure adherence to rules and help build internal policies and procedures, promoting a culture of integrity.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Offer compliance advice to business units regarding consumer finance and payment regulations, documenting all guidance and outcomes.
- Manage the tracking and completion of compliance tasks, including advisory requests, reviews, and financial crime investigations, following established workflows.
- Examine complaint handling processes for high-risk channels and contribute to analyzing complaint patterns and root causes.
- Maintain logs for identified issues and track remediation efforts to ensure timely resolution.
- Review new initiatives to assess their compliance implications and readiness.
- Conduct pre-launch reviews of marketing materials to identify required disclosures and potential risks.
- Assist with compliance assessments for new products and significant projects, coordinating input and tracking launch conditions.
- Support due diligence and ongoing monitoring for third-party vendors.
- Contribute to financial crimes operations, including transaction monitoring, alert review, and case disposition.
- Review potential matches from sanctions and watchlist screenings, documenting findings and escalating as needed.
- Support customer identification and due diligence processes, including managing exceptions and control testing.
- Prepare documentation and review narratives for Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Advise on financial crimes regulations for new and existing products.
- Assist in responding to regulatory information requests and subpoenas.
- Prepare reports and summaries for leadership, highlighting key metrics, themes, and escalations.
- Gather information for internal and external audits and regulatory reviews.
- Undertake other assigned compliance projects.
Requirements
- Possess a BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, business administration, legal studies, information systems, or a related field.
- Have at least 3 years of professional experience in consumer finance, fintech, banking, or a similar regulated industry.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of consumer financial product regulations, including financial crimes requirements like BSA/AML, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC.
- Possess experience in compliance operations, risk management, quality assurance, or similar oversight roles, including planning, documentation, analysis, and reporting.
- Exhibit excellent written communication skills for producing clear documentation and reports.
- Demonstrate strong project management and organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Be an analytical thinker with sound judgment and a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Maintain high integrity and ethical judgment, with a willingness to escalate concerns.
- Have working knowledge of financial crimes operations (transaction monitoring, case management, sanctions screening, CIP/CDD, SARs) or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Be comfortable working with large datasets and structured review processes.
- Be adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
Nice to have
- Hold financial industry compliance certifications, such as CAMS.
- Have prior experience supporting complaint management, issues management, change management, marketing reviews, product compliance assessments, financial crimes compliance, or third-party oversight.
