Job description
Staff Software Engineer at ServiceNow.
About the role
Join the FinOps Tools team within Global Cloud Services to build the next generation of financial governance and analytics platforms. You will lead the development of the Forecast Engine, a critical system that simulates cloud capacity needs and tracks budget performance to drive hyperscaler resource reservations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and build the automation layer for the Forecast Engine, including scheduled runs, variance tracking, and anomaly alerting.
- Translate complex financial and capacity planning requirements into reliable, deterministic software components.
- Develop and maintain the Rust-based simulation core, ensuring high performance and data integrity.
- Integrate the engine with the broader observability stack, including Splunk, to monitor pipeline health and forecast accuracy.
- Create automated interfaces for stakeholders using Lightdash models, APIs, and alert payloads.
- Manage the handoff between forecast outputs and Future Capacity Reservation (FCR) systems to optimize cloud infrastructure procurement.
- Implement rigorous data contracts and testing strategies to ensure forecast reliability and catch regressions early.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, Master's degree with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in a systems language such as Rust, Go, Java, or C++, alongside Python for data automation.
- Proven experience building and maintaining production-grade, scheduled data or forecasting pipelines.
- Track record of greenfield development and delivering high-quality software in fast-paced, startup-like environments.
- Experience with variance detection, budget tracking, or large-scale alerting systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools like Splunk, Datadog, or Prometheus.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Argo or Airflow.
- Ability to critically evaluate and integrate AI-powered tools into development and decision-making workflows.
- Full professional proficiency in English.
Nice to have
