About the role
ServiceNow is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the AI Control Tower, the central hub for governing AI models, agents, and datasets across the enterprise. You will guide the transition of agentic AI from experimental phases to production-scale adoption. This role reports to the VP of Engineering for AICT and requires a leader capable of building from the ground up within the scale of a global enterprise.

What you'll do
- Define and execute the engineering roadmap for specific AICT product areas.
- Manage the transition of products from initial release to widespread customer adoption by iterating on real-world feedback.
- Establish AI-native development standards, including the use of AI for code review, testing, and platform architecture.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Design, and partner engineering teams to align dependencies and deliver unified experiences.
- Represent engineering interests in strategy and review sessions with senior leadership.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering management (manager of managers or senior manager level).
- Startup experience at a company with fewer than 100 employees, with a history of hands-on product building.
- Proven success driving adoption for 1.0 or early-stage products.
- Technical expertise in cloud-native SaaS, multi-tenant architectures, and large-scale API design (REST/gRPC).
- Proficiency with Kubernetes, multi-cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm).
- Experience with database schema design, data modeling, and modern data platforms (relational, graph, vector, columnar, OLAP, and streaming).
- Ability to contribute at both the architectural level and the code level.
Nice to have
- Experience building governance, observability, or compliance products.
- Background in enterprise security, IAM, or data governance.
- Familiarity with agentic frameworks, operational reliability for agents, and AI interoperability standards like MCP or OpenAPI.
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or a related field.

Practical notes
- Base pay: $221,200 - $387,100, plus equity, variable compensation, and benefits including 401(k) match, ESPP, and health plans.
