Senior Staff Data Platform Software Engineer

ServiceNow is hiring a technical leader to oversee data lifecycle management within our platform architecture. You will guide a team focused on storage innovation and high-scale data retrieval while maintaining visibility with executive leadership.

What you'll do

• Direct the design and implementation of data platform solutions.
• Develop highly scalable code with a focus on memory management and concurrency.
• Define and execute strategies for data security, efficiency, and scale.
• Partner with cross-functional groups to deliver data-centric initiatives.
• Investigate complex data challenges, including recovery and detection of data loss.
• Establish and promote data security standards and best practices.
• Optimize performance through monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Integrate AI to address distributed systems problems and establish guardrails for AI-assisted development.
• Mentor engineering staff and promote a culture of technical innovation.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience in cloud-based, high-traffic environments.
• Mastery of Java, including advanced data structures and algorithms.
• Expertise in parallel programming and concurrency.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and storage technologies.
• Extensive experience managing large-scale relational database systems.
• Practical experience deploying Java services within Kubernetes.
• Proven track record of leading and mentoring technical teams.
• Ability to apply AI to solve distributed systems challenges.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed storage systems like Apache Iceberg or S3.
• Familiarity with the ServiceNow platform.
• Proficiency in JavaScript.
• Experience shipping MCP or A2A-enabled platform capabilities.
