About the role
This role involves leading the Events Analytics Platform (EAP) team, which is central to how Sentry stores, queries, and analyzes all event data for over 4 million developers. The EAP team is crucial for enabling efficient debugging across vast datasets and is a key component of Sentry's future as a unified telemetry platform, including its AI initiatives like Seer. You will guide the architectural development and stability of this critical data platform.

What you'll do
- Cultivate and expand a team of engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and impact.
- Define the technical and strategic direction for the team, balancing immediate stability with long-term architectural goals.
- Oversee the development of core EAP features, including complex analytical queries, dynamic routing, storage/compute separation, and modern analytical storage.
- Ensure EAP can handle the demands of AI agents and MCP servers to enable new AI capabilities.
- Guide the consolidation of all event data into EAP, enabling fast and complex cross-event querying at scale.
- Collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Streaming, Production Engineering, Security, and Compliance teams.
- Lead the team through incidents, postmortems, and scaling challenges, promoting operational excellence.
- Build a healthy and collaborative team culture focused on growth, accountability, and inclusion.
Requirements
- 10 or more years of industry experience in software engineering.
- 4 or more years of experience in people management, including career development and performance management.
- Strong technical background in data platforms, storage systems, or analytical backends.
- Experience with distributed systems, query optimization, or scaling data-intensive workloads.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to various audiences.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in Python, Rust, or a similar programming language.
- Familiarity with observability, developer tools, or event-driven systems.
