AI Staff Engineer at SCAN.
About the role
SCAN is seeking a technical leader to architect and implement enterprise-grade AI systems that modernize operations and improve member services. You will bridge the gap between complex business requirements and functional AI applications while ensuring all deployments meet strict security and governance standards. This role requires a balance of hands-on engineering and strategic collaboration across our technology, data, and compliance departments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and maintain AI-powered workflows and applications that address core business needs.
- Develop and integrate LLM-based solutions, including agentic frameworks and context engineering.
- Build and manage data pipelines and retrieval patterns such as RAG and vector search.
- Implement CI/CD, observability, and monitoring for AI systems in production environments.
- Partner with security and legal teams to enforce responsible AI practices, including fairness, privacy, and explainability.
- Translate business goals into technical roadmaps and drive the adoption of new AI technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 6+ years of experience in software, data, or AI engineering, ideally within a regulated industry like healthcare.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building AI applications, integrating LLMs, and implementing RAG patterns.
- Proficiency in Python, REST APIs, and ML/LLMOps frameworks such as FastAPI, LangChain, or Semantic Kernel.
- Deep understanding of vector embeddings, prompt engineering, and agent orchestration.
- Experience with Azure AI Services, Azure AI Foundry, and enterprise platforms like Microsoft 365, SharePoint, or Confluence.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and communicate technical concepts to non-technical teams.
Nice to have
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate.
- Experience with Databricks or Snowflake.
- Domain expertise in healthcare regulations and member-focused care.
- Additional certifications in data governance, cybersecurity, or healthcare informatics.

Practical notes
- Base salary: $106,200 to $182,983 per year.
- Benefits include an annual bonus program, 401(k) with employer match, tuition reimbursement, and a wellness program.
