Software Engineer - Compute Marketplace
Job description
About the role
At Scaleway, you will shape the sovereign cloud of tomorrow. Since 1999, we have designed secure, sustainable infrastructures to support the most ambitious companies. Historically known for dedicated servers (Dedibox), we pivoted to cloud computing in 2015 and have since become a leading European player. Backed by the Iliad Group's €3 billion investment in sovereign AI, we are building serious alternatives to American and Asian giants. Our growing portfolio spans bare metal, containerization, serverless, and AI, serving corporations, startups, and public institutions across Europe. Our offices are in Paris, Lille, Toulouse, Rennes, Rouen, Bordeaux, and Lyon.
You are being recruited to join the Compute team as a key contributor to our new Compute Marketplace. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, security, and product innovation, where you will define how operating systems and packaged applications are exposed to customers. You will build and maintain the platform that allows marketplace publishers to deliver secure and reliable artifacts to end users. Your work will directly influence the experience of thousands of developers and businesses using Scaleway. The position is technical, high-visibility, and requires ownership in a fast-moving startup environment. You will collaborate daily with Product Management and Core Engineering to turn vision into reality.
What you'll do
- Define and develop new features for the Scaleway Compute Marketplace platform using Go and Python.
- Design and maintain robust APIs to power marketplace interactions and ensure a seamless user journey.
- Implement and maintain the tooling required for operating system image creation and system packaging.
- Develop and manage software artifacts that are published and versioned within the marketplace.
- Automate the building, testing, and release pipelines for operating system images and container images.
- Guide external publishers and partners in creating compliant artifacts for the marketplace.
- Enforce security and integrity standards across the artifact lifecycle, including CI/CD controls and vulnerability scanning.
- Participate in the architectural design of new scalable services with strong growth potential.
- Work cross-functionally with product, design, and core engineering teams to deliver on product milestones.
- Explore and prototype solutions in largely undefined technical areas to drive innovation.
- Take ownership of technically uncharted territories to stimulate innovation within the Compute Marketplace.
Requirements
- 5 to 10 years of professional experience in software engineering or system administration.
- Advanced mastery of Go or Python for backend API development.
- Hands-on experience with HashiCorp Packer and operating system image maintenance.
- Strong expertise in Linux system administration and operations.
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL and managing relational databases at scale.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipeline design and artifact security best practices.
- Comfortable with Protocol Buffers and building microservice-oriented architectures.
Soft Skills
- Versatility to switch between systems tasks, development, and automation.
- Initiative to thrive in an environment "to be built."
- Problem-solving orientation focused on exploring and structuring new technical topics.
- Collaboration skills to work effectively on cross-team, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Adaptability to learn and evolve with the project's needs.
