About the role

You will own the design and implementation of critical network connectivity services that power Scaleway's cloud infrastructure. You will build high-performance backend services using Rust to ensure reliability and scalability for our customers. Your work will focus on developing and maintaining solutions such as InterLink, Site-to-Site VPN, and Public Gateway. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into robust technical implementations. You will investigate and resolve complex networking issues that impact customer experience and platform stability. You will contribute to architectural discussions that shape the future of our network products. You will take ownership of your tasks and drive improvements with a strong sense of autonomy and responsibility.

What you'll do

Investigate and resolve customer-reported incidents related to network connectivity with precision and speed.

Design and implement gRPC APIs in Rust to define clear contracts for cloud networking services.

Develop backend services that handle high throughput and low latency for critical network products.

Collaborate with product managers to refine requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Work on core networking features including InterLink, Site-to-Site VPN, and Public Gateway functionalities.

Perform in-depth debugging of distributed systems and network protocols to identify root causes.

Participate in system architecture discussions to ensure scalability and reliability of new features.

Utilize networking tools and stacks such as FRR and GoBGP to validate and troubleshoot implementations.

Partner with the documentation team to create clear technical guides for internal and external users.

Support the devtools team in building internal tools that improve developer productivity.

Collaborate with the design and frontend teams to ensure cohesive user experiences across products.

Engage with the support team to gather feedback and turn it into actionable technical improvements.

Contribute to proof-of-concept projects that test new ideas for future network products.

Share knowledge through technical discussions and optional pair programming sessions.

Requirements

Strong experience with Rust development is essential for building safe and performant network services.

Experience designing or developing gRPC APIs is required to define service communication patterns.

Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals such as TCP, IP, UDP, and BGP is mandatory.

Experience working with PostgreSQL or relational databases is necessary for managing persistent state.

Familiarity with VPN technologies such as IPSec is required for implementing secure connectivity solutions.

Experience with networking tools or stacks such as FRR, GoBGP, or similar is mandatory.

Experience building or contributing to network infrastructure products is a hard requirement.

Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks is essential for success in this role.

Strong collaboration mindset and team spirit are required to work effectively in a distributed team.

Curiosity and willingness to explore complex technical topics are necessary for continuous learning.

Good written and verbal communication skills are required for clear collaboration across teams.

Nice to have

Experience with systems programming in low-level languages is preferred.

Knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts and multi-tenant architectures is a plus.

Understanding of security best practices for network services is appreciated.

Experience contributing to open source networking projects is a preferred asset.
